3 “Crabby” Business Lessons from a Road Trip

What can ‘Crabbing’ teach you about business?
Everything! Not really, just a few takeaways to apply to your businesses.
Over the Christmas break last year, I went to a place called Lakes Entrance.
A beautiful 2-3 day getaway away from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne City.
One of the main attractions here is crab catching A.K.A ‘crabbing’, boating and fishing. I was excited about this trip as the last time I went crab catching was about 10 years ago where I went camping with some friends from University.
And this time round I was determined to catch at least one crab to beat the last record.
Here are 3 lessons I took away from this trip:
1. Timing is everything.
I suggested to the group after dinner to go crabbing as the best time to go was at night based on experience but we all decided it was too late and most of us (including myself) were quite tired from the drive. After a night of playing games and I had some work I had to finish off, we made it the first thing to go in the morning. When we reached the spot to grab catch, there were already people there and it was about 2-3 hours that we left the nets and only caught 1 crab. If we did this at night, it might have been different as night time is feeding time for mud crabs. We still managed to catch one but the results would’ve have been different if we went during the night.
Business is all about timing. When you spend time and attention on what you’re passionate about. You’ll definitely reap the rewards and the results!
2. Success is when Preparation meets Opportunity.
For crabbing, the nets you bring and the bait are important to the success of your catch. For the nets, it was a specific type of net used for crabs (the ones we had were slightly large and crabs could get out of them). Also the bait we used were chicken bones. We forgot the string to tie the bones onto the net so we had to improvise, looking for loose ties or finding unused nets to cut and tie. It did the job!
We had about 5 nets casted and only caught one crab. But hey, we wouldn’t have this lesson if we didn’t do these things :)
Resourcefulness in business is your best friend - whether it’s your time, money or people.
3. Saviour your wins!
Everyone on the trip was like “Kanji, why are so excited about this catch?” I responded we spent 3 hours here I’ve got to bring this home! If you have something to celebrate about, celebrate it fully.
We tend to let the little nuances and processes about business stop us from celebrating and savouring the wins in our business. Learn to enjoy the wins just as much as the lessons. You either win or learn (win).
I hope you enjoyed my takeaways from this personal trip. Travel is what expands your awareness and awareness is the greatest agent of change.

4 STAGES OF THE MARKETING FUNNEL
Awareness: The Starting Point
The marketing funnel begins with awareness. For anyone to transform into a lead or make a purchase, they must first become aware of your presence.
This necessitates showcasing your brand on various platforms and creating engaging content. For instance, you might focus your marketing strategies on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest.
Interest: Building Connections
Once people discover you through social media content, paid advertisements, and other means, the next step is to cultivate their interest in your business. This stage involves creating valuable content and lead magnets, as well as fostering relationships.
It's a journey through the marketing funnel, where you're likely offering valuable freebies, and your audience begins to trust you.
Decision: Moving Closer to Commitment
After navigating through the interest phase, potential customers enter the decision phase. This is when you might present a low-cost offer, a webinar, or a free masterclass, giving your audience a deeper insight into what you offer.
Action: The Final Leap
The final segment of the marketing funnel is the action step. Here, your audience decides whether or not to take action, which could include registering for a webinar, purchasing an offer or a service, or even booking a call. Each person's journey will differ.
My Top Recommendations:
Identify your target audience.
Understand the challenges and issues your ideal client/customer faces.
Tailor your content specifically to your ideal client/customer.
I hope this guidance proves beneficial, and I wish you nothing but tremendous success!
